IMPORTANT – Please read before you go to the questions
With Don Lummus added as a write-in, we now have seven candidates for three positions. This is the first time I can recall where your vote may actually count for something. Because, depending on what you consider important, there are differences of opinion among these candidates.
If you take the time to carefully read the answers, you may find that some candidates represent your views better than others. For example, if you have an opinion as to whether the POA should be funding community wide social events or community amenities, you will find candidates with views on both sides of the issue.
Similarly, if you have opinions about “public access events”, you will find differing views there as well. And, in the case of that issue, it is extremely important to read Question 11 carefully since few people truly understand what the Board has been supporting and attempting to implement. Residents should be fully aware of this issue, because it potentially impacts our security.
On those two issues and various others, the Board has taken actions over the past several years assuming that it has the support of the community. But there have been no valid attempts to survey community sentiment to determine if that support actually exists. This vote appears to me to be the closest thing residents will have to express opinions on these issues.
Please determine who best represents your views and consider that as you vote. And please try to make sure that everybody you know votes as well. Although I have no direct evidence, I recall hearing that less than half of our property owners voted in the last election. That needs to change if we want to ensure that the Board represents the views of the owners.
Many of these questions deal with very specific issues that I believe are of interest to community members; all of which have been discussed at Board level over the past two years. If you wish additional information as to why I have included a particular question, please feel free to contact me ([email protected]).
Please take a few minutes to read these guidelines, as they will help you better understand the questions and answers.
- Questions are in italicized brown type. Answers are in black type.
- In some cases, I have included introductory information, which will be in blue type. This information helps explain why the question was included. Some of these issues may not be well known in the community. For example, Question 11 deals with “public access events”; which is a subject that has not been fully presented to the entire community. To understand that question, one must carefully read the introduction.
- Question 6 deals with Closed Sessions and Executive Sessions. In our POA, these are two different concepts. I kept the introduction short, but it still may require further background information. If so, please read the summary I posted last March which can be found here: Executive Sessions Also, I strongly urge you to read the two resolutions referenced in the question. If you want to know what they allow, it is best to read them yourself. Links to each resolution can be found in the question.
I requested “Yes” or “No” answers on many questions, but, as you will see, that did not always happen. If you feel that is missing, please read the answer carefully to determine the candidate’s position. If it is not clear, you can judge the answer accordingly or, if you wish, contact the candidate directly.
Each candidate’s answers are separate. Therefore, each link will bring up only that candidate’s answers. The questions in each document are the same. I have listed names in alphabetical order:
Thanks for taking the time to review this information, and I hope you find it useful.
